How it's structured

British curriculum schools in Dubai follow the same structure as schools in England: Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for ages 3–5, Key Stage 1 and 2 for primary, Key Stage 3 for early secondary, GCSEs at age 15–16, and A-Levels or BTECs at sixth form level.

The academic year runs from September to June, with three terms. Most schools follow the UK term structure closely, with half-term breaks and a shorter summer holiday than UK schools (typically 6–7 weeks rather than 8).

Fee ranges

Fees vary enormously depending on the school's reputation, facilities, and location:

Remember that the headline fee doesn't include everything. Budget an additional 15–25% on top for registration fees (AED 500–2,000), uniforms (AED 500–1,500), transport (AED 3,000–7,000/year if using the school bus), tech fees, trips, and exam fees for GCSE and A-Level students.

Schools worth looking at

Without recommending specific schools (since the right choice depends on your location, budget, and child's needs), these are consistently well-regarded British curriculum schools in Dubai that score well on KHDA inspections:

At the premium end, schools like GEMS Wellington International, Dubai College, Kings' School, and Jumeirah English Speaking School (JESS) regularly receive Outstanding ratings. Mid-tier options like GEMS Founders School, Regent International, and Horizon English School offer good value with Good or Very Good KHDA ratings.

The admissions process

Most British curriculum schools require an application form and a non-refundable registration fee. For primary age, schools typically review previous school reports and may conduct a short informal assessment. For secondary age, entrance tests in English and maths are common, and some schools interview students.

The key document to prepare is your child's most recent school report from their current school. Have this ready before you start contacting schools — they'll ask for it immediately. Immunisation records are also required for enrolment.

Timing matters: The main intake is in September, but schools accept students throughout the year subject to availability. Popular schools may have waitlists for certain year groups — Year 7 and Year 12 entry points are particularly competitive. Start the process early.
